Jazz in the Garden at the National Gallery of Art
My son and I stumbled across another fun activity while spending the day in downtown Washington, DC. Check out the Jazz in the Garden free summer concert series at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden. Located on the National Mall, the Sculpture Garden features unique modern art pieces on the exterior of the National Gallery of Art West Building.
On Friday evenings from May to August, the Garden becomes a lawn side seat to a jazz concert given by a different artist each week. The concerts run from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm, and is quite a popular event. Hundreds of professionals just getting off of work, families and tourists gather on the lawn and around the fountain, on picnic blankets or benches, to socialize and enjoy the lively music.
Admission is free, but there is a bag check at the entrances. Food and beverages are available in the park. Check the website here for the schedule and details.
Here's a little sample of what we saw and heard.
